About the Class

Classes will be held at our main office, at 265 Sobrante Way in Sunnyvale.

Each day we will cover SAT/PSAT vocabulary, critical reading, and grammar, as well as test-taking techniques. We will offer diagnostic exams on the first and final days of each class, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, to guage your progress.

This class will help you:

Build your vocabulary

Each day we will cover SAT/PSAT vocabulary. We stress vocabulary in context so that you can learn the word by seeing how it's used in a sentence. This method not only gives you a more complete understanding of the word but also improves your vocabulary retention.

Master the Critical Reading passages

Our reading curriculum includes excerpts from historical narratives, science articles, great fiction, persuasive essays, and other genres you might encounter on the SAT. By reading the articles closely for homework and discussing them in-depth in class, we will learn the critical thinking skills that testmakers are measuring with their questions. Students who want more guided reading may also sign up for Advanced Critical Reading, offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays right after the SAT class.

Identify attributes of good SAT writing

You can't write a high-scoring essay unless you know what the testmakers are looking for. We'll identify the weaknesses in your writing at the essay and sentence level through in-class exercises and homework essays. If you aren't sure how to organize your thoughts, write actively and precisely, or display your critical thinking, our individual feedback will get you on the right track.

Receive detailed feedback on each essay you write

Our classes are small. This means your teachers are not expected to read thirty essays an hour like instructors at other institutes. Our teachers read a few essays and give you more detailed, student-specific feedback.

Learn to spot and fix sentence correction errors

Stop relying on your ear alone. A sentence can "sound right" and still be gramatically incorrect or stylistically flawed. We will learn what kinds of errors frequently appear on SATs and the clearest ways to identify them. Come test time, you won't be stuck on #25 wondering if the sentence really contains "No Error."

Learn effective test-taking techniques

We'll answer questions every student wants to know the answers to: How should you prepare in the weeks leading up to your exam? What materials should you review? How can you stay engaged with a critical reading passage? How can you reduce errors on sentence completions? And finally, when all else fails, when should you guess?
