Our Curriculum

Each one-to-one lesson covers

  • Vocabulary
  • Reading
  • Grammar
  • Essay

Students receive weekly homework. They study vocabulary, read literary classics, practice grammar, and work on an essay.

By the end of their first year, diligent students will have written 52 essays and learned 500-1000 new vocabulary words.

We typically teach vocabulary using WordSilk, our proprietary vocabulary learning program.

Does your child need help with the Critical Reading and Writing sections of the SAT? Learning from expert readers and writers is the best prep technique. Tips, tricks, and practice tests are no substitute for mastery of the English language.

Critical Reading Section
Our students regularly read the classics of English literature. These difficult works prepare them for the challenging Critical Reading passages.

Our tutors can watch students work and quickly point out errors in thinking. We teach students how to understand the passage, not how to guess the right answer.

Writing Section
Our SAT Prep program gives students the grammatical foundation to know why an answer is right.

Essay Section
On the SAT essay, students must organize their work and show critical thinking. IYE students write an essay each week. That’s why they can easily organize their thoughts and use concrete examples. Moreover, they develop critical thinking. Each week, our tutors ask students to develop creative examples, consider opposing arguments, and fix weaknesses. These skills train students to write good arguments—even under time pressure.

AP Classes

We are the best resource for students in advanced English classes. Our tutors have studied the major writers of English literature, including Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Joyce. They also have extensive experience writing literary essays. If your child is taking AP English or AP Composition, sign up for a free trial today.

Business Writing

Poorly worded emails can cost you time, money, and even your job. Good writing is increasingly important for hiring and promotion.

Our tutors can quickly show you how to improve resumes, emails, proposals, and reports. In addition, you’ll learn English grammar. Then you’ll be able to write well without having someone look over your shoulder.

The College Essay

We know how to help students get into top colleges because we've done so ourselves. Our tutors have received acceptance letters from Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, UC Berkeley, and the University of Chicago. In addition, they have won numerous awards, including being recognized as National Merit Scholars and Presidential Scholars.

We draw on that experience to help our students succeed. Since 2002, our clients have been accepted at Stanford, the University of Chicago, Princeton, Harvard, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, Wellesley, Purdue, and many more.
