Summer Reading Program for Middle and High School Students
Summer Reading Heroes
A tutor-directed summer reading program from Improve Your English
Summer Reading Heroes is designed to help students stay engaged with books over the summer through consistent reading, accountability, and short weekly discussions with a tutor.
Students choose books that genuinely interest them and meet weekly online with a tutor for a 15-minute reading discussion. The goal of the program is to encourage long-term reading habits, thoughtful engagement with books, and a healthy reading culture throughout the summer.
How Our Summer Reading Program Works
- Students choose books that genuinely interest them.
- Students meet weekly online with a tutor for a short 15-minute reading discussion.
- Meetings focus on meaningful conversation, accountability, and engagement with books.
- Students participate throughout the summer and celebrate with a final end-of-summer event.
More Than Counting Pages
Summer Reading Heroes is designed to encourage meaningful reading, not simply page accumulation.
Reading long, sophisticated books requires a different kind of effort than reading short books. For example, reading the first two books of The Lord of the Rings may represent as much sustained reading effort as reading all twelve books in the Spy School series.
Rather than focusing purely on page totals, we recognize both book length and reading complexity.
